Tom Allor

Tom AllorMy name is Tom Allor. I am a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and its teaching program. After majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Physics, I started my teaching career in the small town of Pinconning. From there it was a move closer to home in Dundee. However I was given the opportunity to be on the ground floor of opening a new school in Dearborn Heights, the Academy for Business and Technology. I spent 7 wonderful years there as the Vice Principal, the Guidance Counselor and the Math/Physics teacher. It was a great opportunity work with many different types of students and it allowed me to focus on helping children of all backgrounds. I had one more stop in Taylor at a public school before deciding that enough wasn't being done to help children. I loved my job as a teacher, but I knew that more could be done. That's when Tutorial Services began...and now I am here to help your child.

Kristie Schaufele

I originally came from a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Negaunee. I graduated from high school and pursued a bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University. I finished in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science from the Department of Education in Kinesiology. I took a job as a preschool teacher in Chicago, Illinois. I was there for almost two years when I relocated back to Michigan. I began substitute teaching in the Lansing area schools before landing a job as a Director of a childcare and preschool center. I began a career change into nursing before becoming the Director of Operations for Tutorial Services. I realized that children are my passion and this is my home.

My name is Katherine Cervelli and I am currently the Assistant Director of Operations at Tutorial Services. I recently graduated from John F. Kennedy HS in Taylor, Michigan. Fall Semester of 2009, I will be attending Henry Ford Community College for Pre-Education. Working with kids has always been a passion of mine. From the Marching Band field to this office I call home, I hope to work with and inspire as many kids as I can, for as long as I can. “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”–Dr. Seuss

Erica Zybach

My name is Erica Zybach and I am currently the Office Assistant at Tutorial Services. I recently graduated from John F. Kennedy HS in Taylor, Michigan. Fall Semester of 2009, I will be attending the University of Michigan pursuing my dream of becoming an engineer. I love the challenge of math problems and working on the tough ones is something that I want others to enjoy. Traveling around the country, and getting to meet some of the parents we work with has been awesome. Tom, (my former math teacher)has allowed me to grow into the position. If you have any math/science questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I will try and find you an answer if I don’t know it.

Debby Krohn

My name is Debby Krohn. I’ve been married for 27 years and I have two daughters, one is a special education teacher and the other is still working her degree in journalism. I have worked for Tutorial Services for four years now and I am currently the office manager. Prior to working here, I worked at a n elementary school for nine years. I have had a lot of experience working with children of all ages. When I was given the opportunity to help children succeed in school I jumped at the chance to help. As you can see, I love being with or around children and helping them get the best possible education they can.

Our Tribute

In 1978, Cathy suffered three lung collapses in an eight month period. The doctor said to her, "Cathy, start saying your goodbyes, you have three years at most to live" and she did just that. She said goodbye to her three children: she said goodbye to her family and friends. But while she was lying in that hospital bed and while she was at home recovering, she took each of us, myself and my two younger sisters aside and made us promise that after she was gone, we would continue our education. Not only to graduate from High School but to graduate from a university. In her mind, and in ours, she wasn't going to be around to see any of them. We made that promise. However with God's help and with some luck, in 1983, I graduated from Onsted High School and my mother was there to watch me walk across the stage. In 1985, my sister Janet, graduated from Onsted, and my mother watched her walk across the stage. And in 1988, my youngest sister, Micki graduated from Onsted, and she also watched her walk across the stage.

Each time we graduated, she would say, "Thank you God for allowing me to be here to see this." As time passes, she beat the doctor's prognosis and continued to improve. In 1988 at age 48, she started at Jackson Community College. It took her several years, but she graduated at age 52 with her associates degree. While she was attending college, Janet graduated from Michigan State in 1990, with a teaching degree. In 1992 Micki graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a teaching degree, and finally in 1995, I graduated from Eastern Michigan University also with a teaching degree.

I never once heard my mother complain about her illness. She is tied to an oxygen machine 12 hours a day. She is limited at times because her lungs don't function like yours and mine. But she has never quit trying. She has never once, said, "Why me?" It is her dedication to us three kids that I think is the inspiration that all three of us became teachers. We needed to give back to society. I know I am very thankful for all she did for us. Naming the school in her honor is one way I can say. "Thank You."
